For #tbt and #womenshistorymonth, I present to you Elizabeth Cotten. What are the chances that a woman who was an precociously talented singer, songwriter, and guitarist (who played with the instrument upside down) and who was a “domestic” at the age of 12 and a mother by the age of 15 would wind up, decades later, caring for the children of the legendary Seeger family? This is the story of Elizabeth Cotten, a National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship Award and Grammy Award winner who didn’t record her first album until she was over 60. She is a national treasure. Read more about her at the link in my bio. : : #explore #music #oldmusic #folk #folkmusic #americana #historyofmusic #folkways #folkwaysrecords #smithsonian #womenshistorymonth #gratefuldead
